What Is Affiliate Marketing And How Can It Benefit You?

What Is Affiliate Marketing And How Can It Benefit You By Daniel Dwase | Published 27th Dec 2008

Affiliate marketing is one of the newest ways to market a product and, although it is quite successful, it is very affordable.

This doesn't fall into the same category as pay per click marketing or email marketing.

Pay per click requires an investment and email marketing might depending on how you acquire your leads.

Affiliate marketing does cost you, but not unless one of your affiliates make a sale for you.

When they make the sale that is when you pay them a commission.

How to know who made the sale

Let's just say that you have twenty people selling for you.

If that's the case, you have to know who made the sale.

You do this by purchasing an affiliate tracking software that you can connect with the shopping cart on your website.

This software helps you generate the unique URLs for each of your affiliates so that you are able to distinguish who makes the sale.

This means the commissions will go to the right individuals. It also keeps track of what affiliate has made what sales.

That way you're not spending hours on top of hours trying to figure out what goes to who.

This leave too much room for error and that is something that no business can afford.

Basically, affiliate marketing benefits two types of people. The first type being the company that starts the program. The second type being the affiliate marketer.

The company that owns the product doesn't have to do anything other than convince people that their affiliate marketing program is the one to go for.

It is their responsibility to make sure there are training materials and adequate tools out there for the affiliate marketer to use.

If not, then that can create an issue with sales. The affiliate marketer may not be able to adequately market the product if they don't have all of the information they need. They need to learn the product inside and out.

Benefits for both parties

So basically, the company benefits by having others do the marketing for them. They just have to provide the tools.

The affiliate marketer benefits by being able to put their energies into marketing this product.

They then make money each month that they wouldn't have otherwise. They also have all of the tools they need at their disposal so that they can effectively market the product.

When it is all said and done, everyone is successful.
